Mayor of the Municipality of Gijón

Carmen Moriyón has been a general surgeon at the Hospital de Cabueñes for 31 years.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Oviedo, where she obtained her doctorate from the Department of Surgery and Medical-Surgical specialities with the work “Radiosurgical biopsy of non-palpable breast lesions”. Carmen Morion was awarded by Queen Sofia Institute of Research Training Area of the Health Service of the Principality of Asturias for the work “Detection and sentinel lymph node biopsy in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck”.

In 2008, Carmen received the “Ambassador of Gijón” award granted by the Club de Empresas de Turismo de Negocios, thanks to her “efforts in the organization of relevant scientific meetings in Gijón and for her professional career and involvement in the treatment of breast cancer”.

Carmen Moriyón began her political career in 2011 and was elected mayor of Gijon, a position for which she was reelected in 2015. In the municipal elections of 2023, Carmen was appointed for her third mandate.
