Alejandro Blanco
President of the Spanish Olympic Committee
Alejandro Blanco has a degree in Physics from the University of Vigo and is a former professional judoka. After presiding over the Castilian and Leonese Judo Federation, in 1993 he became president of the Spanish Judo Federation, a position to which he was re-elected in 1996, 2000 and 2004. In 2003 he was one of the promoters of the Confederation of Spanish Sports Federations (Cofede), which endorsed him to become president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) in September 2005 after a year as vice-president, a position for which he has been re-elected since.
He has been appointed by the International Olympyc Committee on various occasions as a mediator in South America for the resolution of conflicts between the National Olympic Committees and their respective governments, in order to reach satisfactory agreements for all parties.
