Iban García del Blanco
Deputy at the European Parliament
Ibán García del Blanco started a full-time career in politics serving from local to national administration. As a lawyer, he majored in cultural management. Before his election as a member of the European Parliament (EP) in May 2019, he was the Executive President of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), an agency providing public support to the promotion of culture, both in Spain and overseas.
At the EP, he is the coordinator of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the Legal Affairs Committee where, among other responsibilities, he has been the rapporteur for the legislative initiative report on An ethical framework for artificial intelligence, robotics and related technologies, and co-rapporteur on the file on the proposal on disclosure of income tax information by certain undertakings and branches (public Country -by-Country reporting). In addition, García del Blanco has been the coordinator of the S&D in the special committee on artificial intelligence in a Digital Age -whose mandate ended in March 2022-. He is also a member of the Culture and Education Committee, where he has been appointed rapporteur of the file on Cultural diversity and the conditions for authors in the European music streaming market. García del Blanco is also a member of the Petitions Committee and the Investigation Committee on the use of Pegasus and other espionage programs. It also contributes to the work carried out within the framework of the European Parliament Delegations in the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EUROLAT) and for relations with the Andean countries.
Additionally, Ibán García del Blanco is the co-chair of the Sport Group that operates in the European Parliament. The Group is a key platform for sport stakeholders and policy makers to gather, exchange views and explore collaboration opportunities.
Within his political party, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), García del Blanco has served as a member of the Federal Executive Commission in charge of Culture and Sports for the last four years. He is also a member of the Royal Board of the National Library of Spain.
